Legislators Urge Public Preparedness for Extreme Weather

Member of Commission B of the Jakarta City Council, Abdul Aziz, appreciated the issuance of Circular Letter of the Jakarta Education Agency Number 9/SE/2026 about the implementation of learning due to extreme weather in educational units within the Jakarta Province.

He also appealed to the public to increase their vigilance in facing the potential for extreme weather that is predicted to hit the capital in the near future.

"We appreciate the circular regarding these extreme weather conditions, including providing educational institutions with the opportunity to implement distance learning (PJJ), so that our children do not become victims of flooding," he said, Tuesday (1/27).

Aziz asked residents to limit outdoor activities unless there is an urgent need while the potential for extreme weather persists.

"Focus on looking after and watching over his family," he added.

According to Aziz, the Jakarta Provincial Government needs to allocate special funds to handle the impact of extreme weather, considering that flooding now has the potential to occur in areas that were previously unaffected.

"Areas accustomed to flooding are usually better prepared. But for residents who are not used to flooding, this situation can certainly cause stress and anxiety," he continued.

Previously, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has issued an early warning of potential extreme weather that is predicted to hit Jakarta from January 26 to February 1, 2026. The public is asked to increase their vigilance to minimize the risk of hydrometeorological disasters, such as flooding and inundation.

The agency emphasized that public preparedness is important to dealing with extreme weather. Residents are advised to prepare emergency supplies, regularly monitor water level information, and follow weather updates from official sources. Furthermore, the Jakarta Siaga 112 emergency call center is available 24/7.
